Free Pattern: Tiny Basket

This little basket is about 3" in diameter on the inside, perfect for tiny things like buttons or change.  I made it as a laundry basket for my makeup remover pads.  It's just a little bigger than they are, so they stack up in there just right.  And unlike the lingerie bag I was using, it stands up and looks cute on my counter.

Filled with a week's worth of makeup remover pads, this would be a perfect stocking-stuffer for a teenager or an adult!

Supplies:
2 strands cotton yarn (I used a Peaches and Cream green twist and Red Heart white)
5.5mm or 6mm hook (whichever is more comfortable for you)

Abbreviations:
Ch - chain
Dc - double crochet
Sl st - slip stitch
Sc - single crochet

Instructions:
Round 1: With two strands held together, Magic Ring, ch 3.  Inside ring, 12 dc.  Pull tight to close, join with sl st to top ch of ch 3.
Round 2:  Ch 3.  2 dc in each st.  (24 dc)  Join with sl st to top ch of ch 3.
Round 3:  Ch 1.  Turn (so that right side is facing outside of basket), sc in front loop (side on the top) of each dc around.  (24 sc)  Join with sl st to ch.
Round 4 - 8:  Ch 1.  Sc in each sc around.  (24 sc)  Join with sl st to ch.
Round 9:  Ch 1.  Sc in first 3 sc.  Ch 6.  Skip 6 sc.  Sc next 6 sc.  Ch 6.  Skip 6 sc.  Sc next 3 sc.  (12 sc, 12 ch)  Join with sl st to ch.
Round 10:  Ch 1.  Sc in 3 sc.  8 sc in ch-6 sp.  Sc in 6 sc.  8 sc in ch-6 sp.  Sc last 3 sc.  (28 sc)  Join with sl st to ch.  Finish off, weave in ends.

  1. What do you mean when you say two strands of cotton yarn? Are you supposed to tie them together? If so why? Super cute cannot wait to make it.

  2. I held two strands together the whole time, so every stitch is double thick. I am going to make it more clear in the instructions.

    1. Thanks! I can't understand this: "Turn (so that right side is facing outside of basket), sc in front loop (side on the top) of each dc around". Can you give me a bit more help on this maybe? Much appreciated.

    2. Just do your scs in one loop only - it doesn't really matter which one. But you want the right side of your work showing on the outside, not hiding on the inside. So make sure it is. If it's not, go the other way so that it does. :)

    3. Do you do this to make it stand up better? So I'm basically just going in one loop... I think I can do that!

  4. This is so cute! I am going to try and make it, but wanted to confirm that you used two strands of size 4 worsted weight yarn?

  5. Does the chain 3 and chain 1 count as the first stitch?
