Braided strings:
Cut 12 pieces of yarn, about 12 in long.
Take six pieces of yarn together. Put hook through loop on the tip of the earflap, from the inside out. Pull a loop of the yarns through, and pull the tail end through the loop. With three groups of four strands of yarn, braid. When the braid is about 4 in long (or desired length,) tie a knot at the end, trim fringe to desired length.  Repeat for second earflap.

I used this easy flower:
Magic Ring, 5 times [ch 2, 2 dc, ch 2, sc]  Pull ring tight, join to first ch, finish off.  Leave ends free to tie on to hat.  Weave in or leave strings tied in a bow so you can switch it out with something else.

  1. ok Alli, Help! I have a friend at work that wants one of these. How can I adjust the pattern to fit an adult? I know it is all going to go off how big the magic ring is and how many dc to put in each first row of dc but I just can't the amounts just right.

  2. Actually, you can still just start with 10 dc. Switch to the newborn pattern and go from there, adding increase rounds using the information from the "size information" link at the top of the blog. :)

  3. Thank you for this pattern. I am just beginning to crochet and your instructions were very easy to follow. I do have a question....How do I make the tassles that hang from the earflaps??

  12. Alli, on the Preemie version of this, I have encountered what I think might be either a mistake or a typo. On round 4, you say 2 dc in next stitch and then dc in the next 7. To make this to 35, I think you will find it is 2 dc in next stitch and then dc in next 5. Am I correct.

    Regards
    Barbara

  13. I had the same problem on round 4 as well.

  14. Yes, round 4 should be 2dc then 1dc in the next five stitches, not seven.
