Free Pattern: Swirl Flower

Using a similar technique as the no-sew rose, this flower is a clean spiral, great for making a few into a headband or decorating a hat.

Supplies:
Small amount any size yarn (I used baby/sport weight for this one)
Corresponding hook (I used 4.25 mm.  The smaller the hook, the smaller the flower.)

Abbreviations:
Ch - chain
Dc - double crochet
Sl st - slip stitch
Hdc - half double crochet

Instructions: (Rounds are named weird because I forgot the first round when I labeled the diagram.  Oops.)
Base Round: Magic Ring, ch 3.  Inside ring, 12 dc.  Pull ring tight until there is a small hole (enough to get the hook through). Join with sl st to top ch of ch 3.
Round 1: Hdc in each dc around, in back loop only.  Hdc in the back side of the turning ch.  (13 hdc)  Turn work over so that back side is facing.

Round 2: Jump to the straight bar of yarn sitting right below (click on diagram to see it bigger).  There is no bar in the ch-3, so skip that one, then hdc in each bar around.  (12 hdc)

Round 3: Jump to the vertical bar in the base of the dc.  (Use whichever one is easier for your hook to get in.)  Skip ch-3 again.  Hdc in every other vertical bar around.  (6 hdc)  Finish off, pull tail through hole.  Pull Magic Ring tight.  Push up on the base slightly if you want to stagger the rounds, like below.

  2. Thanks for sharing. I love your web pages. I have to say that at first this looks so confusing but the way you "tell the pattern" it works perfectly. I am impressed. I am going to try some of your other patterns. I appreciate your time!!
