Free Pattern: Crown - Size 12 Months

Newborn size here.
2T size here.

I made a crown for an Etsy friend, whose little one is turning one around the same time as my #2!  For these special little guys, I adjusted the crown pattern by scaling it back to five points instead of six.  I used a closed cluster stitch (popcorn stitch?) this time, which resulted in not needing the fifth row in the point.  I also tried out using two colors in the crown, which really made the detail pop.  Using two colors is not for the faint of heart, however, because there were tons of ends to weave in.  I'm really pleased with the way it came out.

Supplies:
Stiff worsted weight yarn (I used Red Heart Super Saver in two colors)
Size 5mm (H/8) hook
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Abbreviations:
Ch - chain
Sc - single crochet
Dc - double crochet
St - stitch
Sc dec - Single crochet decrease

Special stitches:
Cluster - *Insert hook in st indicated, pull up a loop.  YO, draw through two loops.  Repeat from * 7 times; you should have 9 loops on your hook.  YO, draw through all 9 loops, pushing the cluster to the right side.
Crossed Dc - Skip a st, dc. Then dc in the skipped st.
Sc dec – pull up a loop in each st indicated, YO, draw through all loops on hook.

Instructions (Opt, change colors, as shown in the picture, for the crossed dc rows and for the cluster stitches):
Ch 50. Join with a sl st to first ch, being careful not to twist.  Ch 1.

  3. I love this crown! I think the directions for the 12 month clusters is missing some stitches. I went back to the new born pattern and added a couple of YOs to the beginning of each stitch in the cluster, and I only repeated the cluster stitches 4 times not 7 times. Thanks Annie
