Free Pattern: Deeply Textured Hat - Toddler

This is a modification of the pattern from The Laughing Willow.  For adult size, see her original post.

This size hat should fit through youth sizes, just keep adding rounds at the bottom to make it longer.  A helpful measurement when trying to determine how much longer it needs to be is ear-to-ear measurement.  Measure over the top of the hat and it should be long enough to cover the top part of the ear.

Rounds 10-13 (or more for youth size):  Repeat Rounds 8-9.  Finish off, weave in ends.

I changed colors for round 12.  I did not finish off the blue in between.

Brim:
Count 20 stitches away from the seam.  Attach with a sl st.
Row 1: 20 sc in front (outside of hat) loops only.  (You should be in the 20 stitches directly centered across from the seam.)
Row 2: Ch 1, turn.  2 sc dec, 7 sc, 2 sc dec, 7 sc, 2 sc dec.
Row 3: Ch 1, turn.  2 sc dec, 13 sc, 2 sc dec.
Row 4: Ch 1, turn.  2 sc dec, 11 sc, 2 sc dec.
Row 5: Ch 1, turn.  2 sc dec, 9 sc, 2 sc dec.  Continue to sc down the side of the brim, around the whole hat, up the other side of the brim and across the brim.  Sl st to first sc in side of brim and finish off.  Weave in ends.

  3. Thank you Alli! I've already made two hats for my twins using this pattern. You can see it here: http://la-mindi.blogspot.it/2012/10/capellino-lattughino.html and here: http://la-mindi.blogspot.it/2012/10/capellino-cielo-mare.html

  4. I just made this hat for our almost 4 year old and it turned out great! I actually used the original adult pattern from Laughing Willow but used fingering weight yarn and a size F (3.75 mm) hook. It's probably going to be a bit big on our girl but I think that will be just fine. Thank you for sharing your modification of the pattern!

  6. I know I'm a bit late to the party, but I going to throw this question out there on the off chance I might get an answer. This is only the second hat I've crocheted, so I'm a bit inexperienced. Anyway, the Deeply Textured part of this hat seems to be happening on the inside of the hat instead of the outside. Am I doing something wrong? I've already double checked to make sure my fptc are fptc and not bptc. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

  7. Hmmm...I'm sorry that's happening! I actually crochet inside out (I learned a weird way) so it may be written that way. I would either turn the hat inside out (though the back of the scs will be showing, so if that bothers you...) or just do bptc instead. Hope it works out for you!

  10. Thank you for this simple, easy to follow yet adorable pattern. I was lookijg for something to add to a bootie and diaper cover gift set I made for my baby cousin, coming soon. I found your pattern by pure grace and had it made in 2 hours on a Sunday afternoon. This will be my go to pattern for a quick cap for new arrivals or even last minute adult gifts. The pattern is very easy to amend. Thanks again.
