Such a cute hat!
ReplyDeleteJust curious why you repeat 15 clusters in round 4 instead of going straight to 20 clusters. If I am making a larger version (for a toddler) by continuing the increase for a few extra rounds, would you still recommend repeating at 15?
ReplyDeleteGood question. If I was making it bigger I would keep round 4 as-is because it had started increasing too fast. You want the hat to be round like a head, not flat on top. That's why I did round 4 w no increases. With a bigger hat, you will have plenty of room to increase, so I might even do a non-increase round in between each increase round after that point. You will just have to eyeball how well the hat is shaping up.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the magic ring! thank you so much for teaching it ... I don't know if I'll ever do it the 'other' way again!
ReplyDeleteJust finished making this hat - love it!! and am excited to start another. I used a worsted weight yarn and a different size hook as I crochet quite tightly.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteSo I am a bit confused about the cluster. At the top you say that a cluster ends with YO through 4 but then the directions say Yo through 3 loops. Can you help? Thanks.
I just wanted to let you know that I figured it out. Thanks for the great pattern.
ReplyDeleteHi!
ReplyDeleteI love the crochet pattern but I have a bit trouble finishing it neatly. So at the end I sl st in the back loops only and then the instructions say "turn". Does that mean going the same way back instead of crocheting in continuous rounds? And which side has to face outside?
Thanks!
Mel
If you can't get the hang of slip stitching around, you can just replace that whole part with two rounds of single crochet.
ReplyDeleteYou slip stitch really loosely in back loops only, then join at the end to make a full round. Then you turn the work and slip stitch in back loops only going the other way. You always join, but you have to go the other direction each round of sl st. The side facing out is the side with two ribs instead of the side with only one. Just go until you like the way it looks. Hope it works out for you!
Hey Alli!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the explanation. I think I got it right in the end. Now I'm trying the bow with the slip stitch. It works out so far as well and it looks different from just single crochets. Once you've joined the row at the end with the first stitch do you chain one to turn the work? Otherwise the yarn seems to be 'in the way'.
Yep, you're right. I changed it.
ReplyDeleteThanks. :)

ReplyDeleteHi Alli,
ReplyDeleteThank you for publishing this cute pattern for free! My daughter now has a hat for autumn (I just realised 2 days ago that she outgrew all her hats during the summer). It was ready quite quickly and is perfect :).
