THANK YOU! so cute, I have been looking for free pattern for one of these - this is first I've seen. Friend requested one months ago - baby due THURSDAY. Perfect timing - thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThis turned out great Alli! Thank you so much, I can't wait to see it in person and try it out! -Rachel
ReplyDeleteHow do you secure this to hang it? tie it? button it?
ReplyDeleteCheck this out - http://community.babycenter.com/post/a21023345/ideas_on_how_to_safely_hang_stork_pouch?
ReplyDeleteThank you SO very much for sharing this pattern for free. You are such a life saver!!!!!!! Such a cute pattern!
ReplyDeleteLove this pattern ! one Question ... Can i substitute 2 strands of a worsted weight yarn for the chunky yarn ?
ReplyDeleteDana, you definitely could. You may need to add another row or two between 8 and 9 to make sure the pocket is big enough for the baby.
ReplyDeletegreat , thanks ! Should I go up to a K hook ?
ReplyDeleteDana, it's up to you. If the pattern works up better with the larger hook, then that's probably the way to go!
ReplyDeleteexpecting grandbaby soon. how do you use this? so I can tell dear dil. Thanks
ReplyDeleteDiane, If you check out the link in my comment above, you will see some pictures of babies in the stork pouch. It is intended for a newborn photography prop only. Congratulations on the grandbaby!
ReplyDeleteI just finished two of these for a friend expecting twins in February. Thanks for sharing the pattern.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing pattern - one question. Size for (circumference) and height from bottom to top at front where baby peeks out - mine doesn't look tall enough. Afraid too short but too tall wouldn't work either. Really appreciate help. Thanks mmcrochet on Ravelry
ReplyDeletemine doesn't look "deep" enough either. i may rip it out and try again with a K-hook just to see how that goes -- or, using a treble crochet instead of double, as it doesn't seem to stretch much. (i still have several weeks to go so i have time for trial and error).
ReplyDeletethanks for the pattern!
Mine doesn't stretch much either. Any suggestions?? I am using chunky yarn as suggested with a J hook. I may try using a less chunky yarn also. May keep both of them and just use this one with the baby laying on ground??? Please suggest!!

At the request of the photographers I made the pouch for, I made it so that the holes are smaller, making the pouch less strechy. They had a little modesty issue with a little boy in a strechy pouch once. :) But if you wanted to make it more stretchy, instead of doing all dcs, alternate dc, ch 1, then in the next round dc in the ch-1-spaces and ch 1 over the dcs. That would strech a lot more. Sorry I don't have the measurements - I don't have the original anymore.
ReplyDeleteCan I see this with a baby in it? I made one and like a baby couldn't fit into it.
ReplyDeleteI updated the post with the dimensions of the pouch.
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting this. I found this accidently ... Whoo Hoo! It's great! Can't wait to make it. : ) Thanks again. : )
ReplyDeleteThis is great that you shared this...but mine came out much smaller than your dimensions. I don't know why...but it did. I am working on my second one and I wound up doing 3 more rows of dc for the pouch ... that was the only way I could get 7" from the bottom to the brim of the pouch. I had to make a few more changes to make this work for myself. However, I have to say thank you for giving me the basis of this in order for me to even begin to create one. You are the best! : ) I love your patterns!!
ReplyDeleteThank you soo much! I plan on selling these and want to try it! Definitely will link to the wonderful ppatternt hat you are so generoud to share! That is all I need to do to use it right? Post a link with the item? Thanks again
ReplyDeleteYes, you can sell the stork pouch online as long as you link to the pattern in your listing. :)
ReplyDeleteYou are going to be my new fav blog for making my photography props! You might even get me more newborn photography!! I gotta get to work!!
ReplyDeleteI updated the pattern to make the pouch a little bigger - my nephew was 8lbs 8oz and the 7" pouch was too small for him.
ReplyDeleteYou are awesome. I love your patterns. Thanks!!!
ReplyDeleteIS there anyway to do this with a knifty knitter? I suck at crocheting
ReplyDeleteSorry, I don't know how to use a knifty knitter!
ReplyDeleteI ran out of yarn, so I'm going to have to attach more to finish it. What oz skein did you use? I bought the biggest skein of chunky yarn I could find, but it was only 5 oz and I still have 15 rows to go. Love the pattern, though! I'm really excited to try it out!
ReplyDeleteThank you SO much for sharing this!! I've been looking all over for this :) I can't wait to start on it!
ReplyDeletehello, how would i make this a bit bigger, for bigger babies?
ReplyDeleteYou shouldn't use this with babies who are more than about two weeks old. But if the baby is 9 or 10 lbs at birth, you could adjust the pattern by adding another increase round (between Rounds 6 and 7) and add another row or two of "Dc around" between Rounds 10 and 11.
ReplyDeleteOk i started out and didnt join on the ring and I.only have a half bowl am I doing this right? Please help need to completw soon for.a photographer...Thanks...
ReplyDeleteCregan, you don't join, but you don't turn, either. You need to start again and instead of turning, keep going around to make a full circle. Mark the first stitch as you go around so you know where you are at in the pattern. Hope it works out for you!
ReplyDeleteOn the steps that say, " *repeat from* around"
ReplyDeleteDoes that mean to do this step twice? What does the asterisk mean? I'm pretty new to crocheting :)
Thank you so much for this pattern!!!! I made this a few nights ago. I had to tweak the pattern a little because I used VERY chunky yarn, but thank you so much for posting detailed finished dimensions, that helped me out alot to make sure I was making the right size for a newborn. I got it finished in just under 2 hours! Now another 6 months to wait to put my baby in it... :o)
ReplyDeleteThanks for your patterns... my husband is a photographer and am hoping we may be able to use some for our clients. :)
ReplyDeleteI think I'm doing something wrong. I have chunky wieght yarn , and the pouch seems to not be big enough. I've tried going up to an 8.00mm hook and the circumference of the top of the pouch is only 14inches. I can try increasing , but I don't want to mess up the rest of the pattern.
ReplyDeleteFirst, THANK YOU! I was just about to buy one of these patterns.
ReplyDeleteSecond, you must crochet REALLY loosely!!!!! :)
I used Bernat Softee Chunky and a J (6.0 mm) hook. It's about 7" from bottom to top of front, about 16" circumference and the strap length is about 14".
Next time I'll use a K hook and I'll make sure to DC loosely. Luckily, Michael's had this yarn for $2 a skein. I picked up taupe, pink, and a blue & white variegated. So, I'll get lots of practice with this pattern!!
I love how simple and straightforward the pattern is, and I think I'll be switching to crocheting spiral when I make hats.
I just have a question. I have made this for two different photographers they are having problems getting the babys head to not flop fwd is there any suggetions? Both were made to the exact measurements?
ReplyDeleteI don't think that's a the problem of the prop, I think it's the problem of the setup. This is an advanced newborn photography prop. Many photogs actually use it laying down and photoshop it. I can't really help with the staging... I'm not a photographer.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this pattern! It works up quick and is great! I'm using LionBrand Homespun yarn for it and a K hook. I also found that the pouch part of it is measuring at 6 in. after the 10th round, so I'm having to add in a few rounds to make it to 9 in.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the patern! Used chunky yarn! Turned out great!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your patterns with us!! ^_^
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous! I featured a link to your page on my blog this morning: http://www.mooglyblog.com/10-free-baby-crochet-photo-prop-patterns/
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your pattern!
thanks so much for this awesome pattern! i'm working it up right now!! turning out lovely so far!! i would suggest MAYBE adding a gauge, but since the measurements are there it worked out for me.. i just had to go up to a 'L' -8mm hook to get the correct measurements. But it is GREAT as is, i've just found that some people may not understand to do that until after they've made the whole item and realized it's not the right size.. i checked after row 6 :) :) YOU'RE AWESOME!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing your pattern! I made this using bulky yarn and a size K hook (I crochet on the small side). I am trading this for a handpainted glass so I printed (editied versions) of your comments for the photographer that will be taking the baby's photo, I'm sure they will be a great help. I am going to try to send you a copy of the sheet I am including with the sling so that you can see that I am not giving away the pattern but am providing them with your information. Thank you so much :)
ReplyDeleteHi, I've just finished this project and it looks too small? I used the correct size hook so not sure what's gone wrong, any ideas greatly appreciated x
