I love this color combination, and the way the texture row looks like a headband with the flower on it.  I used the small version of the no-sew rose, the open version.

I thought this pattern could use some fresh pictures.  While I had the gorgeous yellow and grey Martha Stewart Crafts with Lion Brand Yarn extra soft wool blend out, I made a new version.  I love how it turned out!  Much cuter than the original.

This is the flower I used on the kid-sized lacy shells headwarmer pattern.  I love how the cluster makes a puff.  Though if I had made the chains bigger, it probably would have laid down flat - if yours isn't puffing up, try making the chains smaller.

This version of the adult lacy shells headwarmer pattern is a little smaller, for toddlers and small kids.  I decorated it with this flower.

Free Pattern: Lacy Shells Tie Back - All sizes

This is a tie-back version of the Lacy Shells Headwarmer - adult size here.  I was trying to make it in baby size, since it would be a super cute photo prop, or a headband for a special event.  But I knew the buttons would dig into baby's head, so I switched it to a tie-back.  What came about was different enough that I thought it would be worth doing in adult size, too!  I love tiebacks - they are great gifts, since you don't have to have the exact size.  And they are quick to make, so you can make bunches of them as accessories.

The baby size will stretch enough to work on a little kid - pictured below is my 2yo in the baby size.  Isn't she cute?  And the adult size will work on a bigger kid, the back of the thick part just almost touched on my 4yo's head.

Supplies:
Sport/baby weight yarn
Size 4 mm/G6 hook

Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

The model for this adult medium size is my studly husband!  The large size just has an extra round, so the two row color change wouldn't work as nicely for the large size.  Love how this turned out in Patons Classic Wool.

This little hat is perfect for Spring - cute but not too warm.  I used the large no-sew rose, the open way, coordinated with the color of yarn I used for the last two rows of the hat.

Free Crochet Pattern: Shamrock Applique

I'm not trying to clutter the blog-o-shpere with this little shammie, just wanted to write down the way I made mine on this little St Patrick's Day hat.  :)


Supplies:
A bit of worsted weight yarn
5mm hook

Instructions:

Round 1: Make a magic ring, make 9 sc inside the ring.  Pull tight, sl st to first sc to close.
Round 2: Ch 3, 3 tc in next sc.  Ch 3, sl st in next sc.  Repeat from * 3 times.  In last sc, ch 12.  Sl st in each ch back up to the sc, finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing on.

This hat should fit older kids/teens and small adult heads.  This fits my small head perfectly in the youth size!  If the older kid or teen has a smaller head, hop down to the toddler size and add a 13th row if you need it.

Free Pattern: Up and Down Stitch Hat - Newborn

This hat was inspired by my late grandmother.  She used this simple, textured stitch pattern to make so many beautiful blankets, one of which my daughter uses every night.  Her dedication to beauty and perfection in her craft inspired me to begin crocheting, and it inspires me still.

For my Valentine's theme, I got my idea from this gorgeous picture of an item no longer available on Etsy.  I made my hat in red, changing to white for the last round, and added a heart applique from Skip to My Lou - though I only did rounds 1 and 2, leaving off the last round.  Perfect for a Valentine's baby!

This hat is a worsted-weight copy of this hat.  The spaces are uneven on this size, but I think it's pretty cute that way!

Free Crochet Pattern: Stroller Pouch

Since I had my babies, pretty much every year one of my New Year's Resolutions is to exercise more regularly and maybe shed a few of these leftover pounds.  Now that my olders are in school, I can take the babe out during the day for a walk or a run.  But my jogging stroller didn't come with a parent tray, and though the underneath storage is great, I really need some things close while I am running.  So this is what I came up with.  This button-on stroller pocket works great to store my phone, iPod, my keys or garage clicker, some chapstick, whatever I need to be close at hand.

It will probably wobble as you go, but probably won't tip over.  Just in case, though, don't store anything in there that could hurt your kid if it fell out!

If you are making this for your own stroller, measure the distance between the handles.  If it's shorter than mine, you will need to make your starting chain shorter.  Also, if you want to carry a larger phone or a water bottle, add rows to make the pocket deeper.
