  4. What adjustments would I need to make for it to fit a 9-12 month old? Thanks!

  5. follow one of the 9-12 month patterns (click on the label at the right) until the increase rounds are done. Then follow the stitch pattern above and end with a couple of sc rounds. Check out the hat dimensions in the "size information" tab at the top to check the size as you go.

  7. I'm making this hat now and have a quick question. On round 6-9 it says in each ch-1, sp around. What does sp around mean? Thanks Alli.

    1. Sp is an abbreviaiton for "space." If you read inside the parentheses that follow, it tells you what to do in each ch-1 space in the whole round.

  12. Hi. I have a question about the magic ring. I clicked on the link and saw the directions. 6 sc in first round, 2 sc in each of those 6, total of 12. I'm gonna make the newborn open stitch hat. Do I do the magic ring like the link or does this pattern start it with 3 chains and the 10 dc?

    1. No, just use the link to learn the technique, but use the stitches from this pattern inside.

  15. This is an adorable pattern :-) I'm having trouble making it newborn size. When I used an H hook, it came out preemie size. I went up two hook sizes and still only have a 12" circumference. Any suggestions?

    1. Try making the 3-month size (linked at the top of the page), hopefully it will come out the right size for you!

  16. Hi Alli,
This is a really great pattern! But after doing Round 4 I had 45 dc. This makes sense, because 30 x 1.5 = 45. The rest of the pattern worked out fine, though.

  17. i think im doing something wrong... when i finish row 6 - 9 it looks more like a bowl with a flat bottom, it doesnt seem to have a proper hat shape! :(
