Free Pattern: Tiniest Heart Applique
Happy Valentine's Day! These would be a perfect addition to a card or gift for your sweetheart, but hearts are in season year-round. I used these hearts - about the size of my thumbnail - on the Boo-Boo Buddy Cold Pack Cover for my girl.
Supplies:
Tiniest bit cotton yarn (or whatever kind)
5mm (H/10) hook (or whatever hook for your yarn)
Abbreviations:
Ch - chain
Sc - single crochet
Dc - double crochet
Instructions:
Row 1: Ch 1 (loose enough to get your hook back through, but not looser.) In ch, sc three times. (First sc loose, second sc tight, third sc in between.)
Row 2: Ch 1 tight, turn. Dc in first sc, sl st in next sc, ch 1 tight. Dc in last sc, sl st in first ch of Row 1. Finish off.
Notes: The heart is so small, that the tension really made a difference to the shape. I've made notes in the pattern on the relative looseness/tightness of the stitches based on the six or so hearts I did. People crochet so differently, though, that you may find that some other way works better for you. Plan on making more than you need so that you can get enough looking like hearts and not triangle blobs.
