Free Pattern: Boo-Boo Buddy Ice Pack Cover
When my #1 gets a bump, she likes a little baggie of ice. It always has to have a towel, though. Kitchen towels are hard for a two-year-old to keep around a baggie of ice, so I came up with these cuties to hold her little ice packs. This would also be good for kids who like to take the ice out of the bag and scatter it.
Supplies:
Small amount cotton yarn
5mm (H/8) hook
Yarn needle
Button
Abbreviations:
Ch - chain
Dc - double crochet
Sc - single crochet
Instructions (make 2):
Round 1: Magic Ring, ch 3 (counts as first dc), 11 dc. (12 dc) Pull magic ring tight, join to top ch of ch 3.
Round 2: Ch 3, dc in same ch. 2 dc in each dc around. (24 dc) Join to top ch of ch 3.
Round 3: Ch 3, dc in same ch. 2 dc in next dc. dc in next dc. *2 dc in next 2 dcs. Dc in next dc. Repeat from * around. (40 dcs) Join to top ch of ch 3.
Round 4: Ch 1. Loosely sc around. Join, finish off. Weave in ends.
Assembly: With wrong sides together, loosely crab stitch two sides together for 31 scs. Continue to crab stitch one side for the final 9 scs. Finish off. With same side facing, crab stitch the other 9 scs. Finish off.
Sew button securely to Round 3 directly under the middle of the opening. Join yarn to middle st of open sides, tightly ch 15 (or long enough to go around button). Join to same st, finish off. Weave in ends.
If using appliques, sew on loosely so that the pack can still stretch. You can also add ears and a face, like I did here, to make a little bear. :)
To use: Put 3-5 ice cubes in a sandwich baggie, seal bag. Put inside pack, close with button. Put on kid's boo-boo.

This is so cute! I'm glad I came across your blog. There are a few of your patterns I want to try- some hats :) I'm new to crochet and I've learning online and I just want to make everything I see!
ReplyDeleteI just found your site and I'm so glad I did. A group of my friends have joined with a children's Hospital in our area to provide purple (and any shade in that color range)hats for all of their newborns and preemies. Each baby will go home with a purple hat and educational information about "Purple Crying" which the hospital has found can sometimes lead to shaken baby syndrome. We are always looking for new patterns to make for the babies and you have given us some really cute ones.
ReplyDeleteThank you,
Janet
You've added wonderful patterns to my list of want-to-dos! An idea for you, if you have a food saver you can make small pouches, fill with water & rubbing alcohol & freeze. These ice packs can be reused over & over. It would be nice if there was a circular pouch to fit in your boo-boo buddy, but a small rectangle would work.
ReplyDeleteA very creative idea.
