Free Pattern: Lacy Shells Headwarmer - Kid Size
Adult size here.
This version of the adult lacy shells headwarmer pattern is a little smaller, for toddlers and small kids. I decorated it with this flower.
Supplies:
Medium weight yarn
Size 5 mm hook
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
Abbreviations:
Ch-chain
SC-single crochet
DC-double crochet
Sl st-slip stitch
Space-space between the second and third DCS in cluster.
Instructions:
Ch 68 (If the chain isn't long enough to wrap around the entire head and overlap a bit, increase by a multiple of 6.)
Round 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook. *Skip 2 ch, 4 dc in next ch. Skip 2 ch, sc in next ch. Repeat from * to end. Sl st in the end of the last ch, sc on the other side (through the two ribs) of the end ch. In the opposite side of the chs, *Skip 2 ch, 4 dc in next ch. Skip 2 ch, sc in next ch. Repeat from * to end. Sl st to other side, finish off.
Repeat each of the following rows on each side (mirror image) of Round 1.
Row 2: Turn so that wrong side of work is facing. Join yarn to the "space" between the second and third dc in first 4-dc cluster of Round 1. *4 dc in next sc. Sc in "space." Repeat from * across; in last "space" sl st instead of sc. Finish off.
Row 3: Turn so that wrong side of work is facing. Join yarn to the "space" between the second and third dc in first 4-dc cluster of Row 2. *4 dc in next sc. Sc in "space." Repeat from * across; in last "space" sl st instead of sc. Finish off.
Row 4: Turn so that wrong side of work is facing. Join yarn to the "space" between the second and third dc in first 4-dc cluster of Row 3. *4 dc in next sc. Sc in "space." Repeat from * across; in last "space" sl st instead of sc. Finish off. Weave in all ends.
While you are weaving in the ends, use one to create a stable "buttonhole" on one side of the foundation ch on the end of the very first cluster. (It's not technically exactly centered, but it won't matter, especially if you weave it in with that in mind.) On the other side of the earwarmer, sew a button on.
I used this flower as a decoration.
