This hat is a worsted-weight copy of this hat. I think it turned out really sweet. It would be a great boy hat, too, especially with a little brim.
The spaces between the stripes on this size aren't even, as you may be able to see. I guess this could be good, or it might be annoying. If you'd prefer even stripes, go up a size or down a size.
I decorated this one for Christmas with the Wreath Applique.
Supplies:
Worsted weight yarn (I used "I Love This Cotton" by Hobby Lobby)
5mm hook
Opt tapestry needle for weaving in ends
Abbreviations:
Ch - chain
Dc - double crochet
Sl st - slip stitch
Fpdc - front post double crochet
Instructions:
Round 1: Magic Ring, ch 3. Inside ring, 10 dc. Pull ring tight, join with a sl st to top ch of ch 3.
Round 2: Ch 3. In each dc around [dc, fpdc]. (10 dc, 10 fpdc) Join with a sl st to top ch of ch 3.
Round 3: Ch 3. *2 dc in dc. Fpdc in fpdc. Repeat from * around. (20 dc, 10 fpdc) Join with a sl st to top ch of ch 3.
Round 4: Ch 3. *2 dc in first dc, dc in next dc. Fpdc in fpdc. Repeat from * around. (30 dc, 10 fpdc) Join with a sl st to top ch of ch 3.
Round 5: Ch 3. *2 dc in first dc, dc in next 2 dc. Fpdc in fpdc. Dc in next 3 dc. Fpdc in fpdc. Repeat from * around. Join with a sl st to top ch of ch 3. (35 dc, 10 fpdc)
Round 6-12: Ch 3. *4 dc, fpdc, 3 dc, fpdc. Repeat from * around. (35 dc, 10 fpdc) Join with a sl st to top ch of ch 3.
Round 13: Ch 1. Sc in each st around. (45 sc) Join with a sl st to top ch of ch 3. Finish off, weave in ends.

ReplyDeleteNot sure why.. I'm an experienced crocheter, but when I try this pattern it works itself inside out. Might be because I'm left handed, but I can't for the life of me figure out why it's doing that! Unless it happens that way for you too?

You are probably mixing up fpdc with bpdc... I had this issue a while back. Finally realized that I was doing the wrong stitch. Check out YouTube for videos.

DeleteWhat you have to do is get the circumference of your child's head. (thankfully it should be about the same for your 3 year old as it is for your 12 year old.) You would the divide it by 3.14 to get the diameter . you then would keep increasing the dc until you reach the right diameter. This would just mean a few extra rows. then you would stop increasing dc, and just continue how ever many dcs and fpdc straight down until you reach the height that you desire. (I hope this helps...) ^^;
When I get 6 row, why do I come out with only 30.stitches. when it suppose to be 35? Do I repeat row 5 or its 4 dc,fpdc?

DeleteYou might be missing the DC stitch immediately after the FPDC, Sometimes easy to miss if you do not see it. My problem is that with the first chain 3 I ended up with 36 or 37 stitches
