Isn't this hat lovely? This hat has such a sweet, girly texture. I learned this stitch from The Crochet Stitch Bible. (It's called the Paris stitch in the book.) Gorgeous bow by Bella Designs
Supplies:
Sport weight yarn (I used Bernat Snuggly)
4.25mm hook
Opt tapestry needle for weaving in
Abbreviations:
Ch - chain
Dc - double crochet
Sc - single crochet
Sl st - slip stitch
Four double crochet rounds are pictured, but the hat in the photo was a bit pointy on the top when I put it on the baby doll. So I changed the instructions to reflect a 3-round increase (you may recognize it from the bobble hat). I will include what I did for the pictured hat in the comments.
Instructions:
Round 1: Magic Ring, ch 3, 15 dc. Pull ring tight, join to top ch of ch 3.
Round 2: Ch 3. 2 dc in each dc around, join to top ch of ch 3. (30)
Round 3: Ch 3. 2 dc first dc, dc next 2 dc, repeat around, join to top ch of ch 3. (40)
Round 4: Ch 3. In next dc, [dc, ch 2, sc]. *Skip 2 dc. In next dc [2 dc, ch 2, sc]. Repeat from * around. Join with a sl st to the side rib of the middle chain in the ch-3 space.
Round 5: Ch 3. Turn. In next ch-2 sp, [dc, ch 2, sc]. In each ch-2 sp around [2 dc, ch 2, sc]. Join with a sl st to the side rib of the middle chain in the ch-3 space.
Rounds 6-15: Repeat round 5. Finish off, weave in ends.

The instructions for the pictured hat (which turned out pointier) differ from the written instructions as follows:

(The first tulip stitch row had 2 left over, so instead of skipping 2 st, in the last tulip stitch I only skipped 1)

ReplyDeleteI made the hat again and figured out a better way to join. I updated the pattern. The seam will still be visible, but it should be only about as visible as a seam in a double crochet hat.

ReplyDeleteYou can copy and paste the pattern into your word processor (eg microsoft word). If you don't have a word processor, download Open Office from the internet for free. It has a word processor you can use.
