Free Pattern: Beanie with Crossed Texture Detail Row - Premie
Newborn size here.
3 month size here.
6 month size here.
Whipped up this simple premie hat and had to share. I think the color change to a lighter color on the detail row makes the hat.
I'm saving up all these premie hats to give to a NICU someday. I have loved hearing from some of you who do this; anybody else make hats to donate? How did you get connected to the hospital?

I've donated to the Dayton, Ohio Children's Hospital because that is where my nephew spend the first 6 weeks of his life! The NICU was the best in the sense that the nurses were great and knew what to do. I highly recommend that people donate what they can! Each hat we used was made with love and we definitely needed all the love and support we could get during those times!
ReplyDeleteThis is very nice... love the pattern!Shari

I made this one for my niece and loved the way it turned out so much that I'm making more for the children's division!

Jenn, I am in love with your bird hat!!! Super adorable. Great job. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the pattern. I will try it tonight. I make a lot of premie hats, and blankets and donate them to our local hospital that has a NICU unit.I started a prayer shawl ministry at our church, and we make hat, booties, blankets, prayer shawls and lap afghan and donate them to our nursing homes, chemo patients etc, and any one who needs one.
ReplyDeleteJust call your local hospital and find out what they need.
I have also made burial gowns for the premies that don't make it. It really is a rewarding experience. Jeanne
I love the preemie hat that you have and our Central West Florida Chapter of Newborns in Need will be making these to include in our NICU Preemie or Newborns Kits that we provide to our local hospital and women shelters/pregancy centers here in Tampa, Florida. We are a volunteer group and if anyone wants to make preemie hats to donate to our local Chapter, please contact me. Email valrico@newbornsinneed.org. Thanks so much. Sue
ReplyDeleteHi, I love using your patterns as a go-to when I don't have anything else going on. I've also been making premie and nb hats and saving them up to donate to local hospitals but been wondering how it works. How do I know that they are actually being given to babies? How do they decide what and when babies get them?
ReplyDeleteThe specific hospital will tell you their policies, but they will give them to the babiea when they are born. They don't have any reason not to, that I can think of, but you coukd ask them that question, I'm guessing they would have an answer. The specific one I talked to needed more newborn hats than preemie, they wanted them prewashed in Dreft, and they didn't accept donations of yellow hats because the doctors said it made babies look jaundiced. Lol
