Free Pattern: Doll Blanket with Special Stitch

This little blanket is a perfect size to cover up or wrap up a girl's baby dolls.  My girls' medium sized doll has a 12" head circumference.  I used a stitch that I accidentally made up while I was learning to crochet.  Even now that I know how to make all the stitches correctly, I go back to this one sometimes when my eyes get tired of straight rows of double crochets, or my hands get tired of long stints of single crochets.  It's easy stitch that creates an interesting texture.

Supplies:
2 skeins worsted weight yarn (I used I Love This Cotton)
Size 5mm hook
Opt tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Abbreviations:
Ch - chain
Ahd - alternate half double (see special stitch)
Sc - single crochet
St - stitch
Sl st - slip stitch

Special stitch - Alternate Half Double
YO, insert hook into stitch.  YO, pull through stitch, pull same loop through first loop on hook.  YO, pull through both loops on hook.

Instructions:
Ch 51.
Row 1: In second ch from hook, ahd.  Ahd in each ch across. (50 ahd)
Row 2-55: Ch 1, turn.  Ahd across. (50 ahd)

I changed colors every 11 rows.  (I chose to do an uneven number because kids don't care if the colors always change on the same side, and it makes the blanket less wonky to have woven ends on both sides of the blanket.)  At the end, finish off, weave in ends.

Picot edging (learned from The Crochet Stitch Bible) - Sc in first st.  *Ch 3, sl st in first ch.  Skip a st, sc in next st.  Repeat from * around all four sides.  Sl st, finish off.

  4. What type of fleece is best used in a guinea pig cage?
I've recently bought a guinea pig and after having it for a week, I noticed that in order to continue using Carefresh, it's going to be quite expensive. I heard that you can use fleece with towels under it, but my question is.. What kind of fleece blankets should I use?
