Free Pattern: Curly Sprig Hat - Newborn
This photo prop is for my newest nephew-on-the-way, by special request of his very pregnant mommy. :) Don't leave baby unattended with a long curly sprig hat, since it's long enough to make trouble.
Supplies:
Chunky weight yarn (I used Loops and Threads Charisma)
Size 6mm hook
Opt tapestry needle for weaving in ends
Abbreviations:
Ch - chain
Dc - double crochet
Sl st - slip stitch
Hdc - half double crochet
Instructions:
Round 1: Magic Ring, ch 3. Inside magic ring, 9 dc. Pull ring tight. Join with sl st to top ch of ch 3.
Round 2: Ch 3. 2 dc in each dc around. (18 dc) Join with sl st to top ch of ch 3.
Round 3: Ch 3. 2 dc in first dc, dc in next dc. Repeat around. (27 dc) Join with sl st to top ch of ch 3.
Round 4-8: Ch 3. Dc in each dc around. Join with sl st to top ch of ch 3.
At the end of round 8, finish off, weave in ends.
For curly tail, ch as long as you want the curl to be (all curled up, not stretched out). For the short curl, it was about 20. For the long curl it was about 45.
3 hdc in each ch. Finish off. Use ends to tie curl to top of hat, weave in ends.
(For a less curly curl, only do 2 hdc in each ch.)
For use as a photo prop only! Don't leave a baby alone with a long curly sprig hat.

Ali,
ReplyDeleteHow many inches around is the hat? How do you increase the hat for a baby that's not a new born?
Thanks.
