Free Pattern: Pacifier Pouch

It's so hard to keep track of pacifiers, but babies always seem to need a fresh one!  This pouch is a handy way to keep track of them.  It works up fast, and it would be a great addition to a baby shower gift, especially paired with a wipes case cover.  Below are crochet patterns for the 2-color and the 1-color versions.

Supplies:
Small amount one or two colors worsted weight yarn (Probably stay away from cotton, since the fuzz will stick to the paci.  But definitely use something washable.)
Size 5mm hook
Small button
Large button

Abbreviations:
Ch - chain
Sc - single crochet
Dc - double crochet
Sl st - slip stitch

Instructions for 2-color fussier version:
Ch 11.
Row 1: Using color 1 (green), sc in second ch from hook and across.  (10 sc)
Round 2: Change to color 2 (blue), ch 1.  Instead of turning, continue working around the back of the row (in the original chains).  2 sc in first sc.  Sc in each sc across.  Then come around to the Row 1 scs.  2 sc in first sc.  Sc in each sc across.  (You will have 11 sc on each side, not counting the ch 1.  22 sc.)  Changing to color 1, join to ch.
Round 3:  With color 1, ch 3.  Dc in each sc around.  (22 dc)  Changing to color 2, join to top ch of ch 3.
Round 4:  With color 2, ch 1.  Sc in each dc around.  (22 sc)  Changing to color 2, join to ch.
Round 5 - 8:  Repeat rounds 3-4.  In round 8, instead of changing colors, finish off.

*I just dropped the color and picked it back up on the next round, and you can't see it from the outside.  Just be sure to leave enough yarn between sc rows, or it will pull the pouch tighter on that side.

Closures -
Sew large button to center of second sc row from top.  Attach two strands of yarn to 3rd st in (or refer to picture and eyeball it).  Ch 13 (or only enough to wrap securely around button).  Sl st into 3rd st in on the other side (or whichever one looks right).

Sew small button to inside corner of second sc row from top.  Attach one strand of either color yarn to outside of same row (or if using color 1, just above in dc row), tightly ch for about 6 inches.  Fold over for a small loop (about 4 stitches), sl st into ch to close loop.  Finish off, weave end into loop.  Weave the other ends into the pouch.

To use small button closure, put loop around bag or stroller and pass through the space between two dcs near the button, attach to button.

Instructions for simpler, 1-color version:

Ch 11
Row 1: Sc in second ch from hook and across.  (10 sc)
Round 2: Ch 3.  Instead of turning, continue working around the back of the row (in the original chains).  2 dc in first sc.  Dc in each sc across.  Then come around to the Row 1 scs.  2 dc in first sc.  Dc in each sc across.  (You will have 11 dc on each side, not counting the ch 1.  22 dc.)  Join to top ch of ch3.
Rounds 2-5: Dc in each dc.  (22 dc)  Join to top ch of ch 3.
Finish off, weave in ends.

Closures -
Sew large button to base of second row from top.  Attach two strands of yarn to 3rd st in (or refer to picture and eyeball it).  Ch 13 (or only enough to wrap securely around button).  Sl st into 3rd st in on the other side (or whichever one looks right).

Sew small button to inside corner of second row from top.  Attach one strand to outside of same row, tightly ch for about 6 inches.  Fold over for a small loop (about 4 stitches), sl st into ch to close loop.  Finish off, weave end into loop.  Weave the other ends into the pouch.

To use small button closure, put loop around bag or stroller and pass through the space between two dcs near the button, attach to button.
