Free Pattern: Camera Lens Cozy

While I was on vacation this week, I made a lens cozy for my dad's zoom lens.  A camera lens cozy or sleeve can protect your lens from scratches or bumps without having to buy a padded camera bag.  The cozy should be snug, so this pattern will easily adjust for whatever size lens you have.  This lens cozy is for a Nikon.

Supplies:
Two balls worsted weight yarn  (I used an acrylic)
Size 6mm (J/10)
Yarn needle (opt)

Abbreviations:
Ch - chain
Sc - single crochet

Directions:
Round 1: With 2 strands together, magic ring.  Inside ring, ch 1, 8 sc.  Pull ring tight.  Join to ch with sl st.
Round 2: Ch 1.  2 sc in each sc around.  (16 sc)  Join to ch with sl st.
Round 3: Ch 1.  *2 sc in first sc, sc in next sc.  (24 sc)  Repeat from * around.  Join to ch with sl st.
*** Check the size of the cozy against the lens.  It should be slightly smaller than the widest part of the lens.  If your lens is bigger than mine, you will need to do additional increase round(s).  If the circle is slightly smaller than the lens, continue with the pattern.  (On the additional increase rounds, if the circle is not laying flat, pull out the last round and add another sc between increases.)
Opt additional increase round 1: Ch 1.  *2 sc in first sc, sc in next 2 sc.  (32 sc)  Repeat from * around.  Join to ch with sl st.
Opt additional increase round 2:  Ch 1.  *2 sc in first sc, sc in next 3 sc.  (40 sc)  Repeat from * around.  Join to ch with sl st.
Opt additional increase round 3:  Ch 1.  *2 sc in first sc, sc in next 4 sc.  (48 sc)  Repeat from * around.  Join to ch with sl st.
Round 4:  Ch 1.  Sc around.  Join to ch with sl st.
Repeat Round 4 until the cozy is the length of the lens.  Then work as many rows as you worked in your flat circle, plus an additional 3.  (So for me, that was 3 in the original circle, plus 3=6 rows past the length of the lens.)
Finish off, weave in ends.

Cut a long length of yarn (or 3 for a braid) about the length of twice the circumference of the cozy or a little longer to be the drawstring.  Weave it in to every second stitch in the second or third row down, whichever creates a snug fit around the lens without being too tight.  (I used the second row down.)
