I recently made this while flying and found the top to be easy and stretchy. When it came to the bottom stitches, although I thought I was doing them loosely, they are not as loose as I would want to allow any stretching. I have never really found the cotton yarn to be very stretchy so I guess making this "Loosely" really does mean "really loosely".
ReplyDeleteAn easy alternative with more stretch would be to do two rows of sc instead of the sl st rows.
ReplyDeleteThis is a darling little hat for preemies...so much cuter than some of the plain ones that were given to our two little ones while in the NICU. Not that I take the gift for granted but this little hat would really put a smile on someone's face and I will be making some this fall to take to the hosp to donate. Thanks for sharing this! Diane
ReplyDeleteHow would one go about doctoring this so that the hat could fit an older baby? Should I just do increases from twelve clusters?
ReplyDeleteKeep increasing as you would a normal hat (so it would be increase every second, then increase every third and so on) until you get the width and then stop and just do one cluster in each. This page has saved my life when it comes to hats ;) - http://crochetincolor.blogspot.co.uk/2012/06/trying-to-customize-hat-sizes.html
DeleteCheck the comments on the newborn hat - I explain how to increase the size there. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat is the magic stitch? Does that mean chain three and join then start
ReplyDeleteClick on the words Magic Ring and it will take you to an explanation with lots of pictures. Or look it up on Youtube for videos.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a beautiful hat, but it's so difficult to understand. Im a beginner (I know this pattern is meant for intermediates, but all beginner patterns are ugly) I'd love it if you had some easier-to-follow instructions available? I'm bored of the ugly/plain designs, but I'm trying to teach myself as my grandmother passed away before she could teach me. I cant even get halfway through round 1. Thanks
ReplyDeleteIgnore my last question.... I stuck with it and figured it out! Best way to learn after all haha Lovely pattern, and so easy when you get the hang of it. Feel silly now for not understanding Doh! :-)
ReplyDeletehi! I love the design...do you have the size for adult?
ReplyDeleteAs Newbie is, I'm also new with crocheting...does this pattern come in video tutorial?
I don't have a video tutorial, and if you check the comments on the newborn size, I make some suggestions for increasing the size.
ReplyDeleteLovely pattern, I made two this afternoon to go to my local SCBU.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the pattern.
Hi! In your explanation of the special stitch cluster, you wrote that you have to repeat until you have 4 loops on the hook, then finish... but in you pattern you only go till there's 3 loops on the hook... which one is good?
ReplyDeleteWithin the pattern is the explanation for the modified cluster stitch to start off each row - which only has 3 loops because the ch-3 make up the "4th loop" of the cluster stitch. For all the other cluster stitches in the round, go with the explanation at the top of the pattern.
Deleteahh okay now I understand.. and it's exactly what I made anyway. Really cute hat! thanks for the pattern! :)
ReplyDeleteI love your pattern. My office has a fine arts club were we made hats for the premier at our local hospitals. May I made copies of your pattern to share the group as theses hats are beautiful hats sweet little ones.
