  7. Mary Alice, it should say ch 2 on the end of the previous row. Sorry about that!

  8. Adorable hat...Have you ever made a matching diaper cover? I have found several for sale on ebay but I would love to try crochetting one myself. One cover I especially like has side flaps that meet in the front and close with a single button. I have yet to find a pattern for that style however.

  9. I just LOVE this pattern..soo easy and fluffy. My end product however, has a distorted looking line where all of my slip stitches were...is this the way it is suppose to be?? I am new to crochet so I am not sure.

  10. Maybe you should make your slip stitches tighter? I can always see my seam, but it usually isn't obvious to people who don't crochet. Especially with fluffy yarn, even though you can see it, it shouldn't look bad.

  11. For round 3, I'm having a little trouble. Does the ch 2 joining with slip stitch count as a stitch? I did 2 dc in first and then a dc in the next 3 stitches but the last stitch 26 is just one dc, should it end with one or two?

  12. Anonymous, I must have miscounted - it should be 25. I changed it. The ch-2 joinings are separate, so if you count them the counts would be 11, 21 and 26. Just check the circumference of the hat - if it's about 11 or 12 inches you should be fine.

  17. Either start with more stitches in the initial ring, or do another round of increases until the hat is the right circumference.

  22. Hi Alli. I don't crochet myself (hoping to figure it out one day!) but I am going to give this pattern to my Grandma who will do this one for me? I live in Canada, so there may be some discrepencies, but I've never had to go buy the yarn before - so I'm wondering where would I find yarn like this fuzzy one? Also wondering, I would like her to do it gender neutral as we don't know the sex, what colors would you suggest, or do you have an example of a gender neutral one you have created yourself? Thank you so much for providing these patterns for free!!!

  23. Aleisha,
I have never been yarn shopping in Canada, but I'm guessing you can find fuzzy yarn wherever you can find yarn... if not you can definitely order it online. I have made gender neutral ones, using an off-white color of the same type of yarn I used in the original. It turned out adorable.
    Congratulations, and all the best!
    Alli

  24. Aleisha, you can get the Loops & Threads yarn at a Michaels craft store or a local Yarn store probably carries it also or will be able to order it for you. I live in Ontario and found this yarn at Michaels. Alli, love this pattern. I am very excited to try it and will post my outcome on my blog also. Thank you for sharing patterns. I am self taught, and can also knit. My Christmas gift this year are all knits so I am having fun :-)

  25. Love your pattern Alli! It is my first crochet project. A question for you, my double crochets line up all the way around the hat, but where I join them to the previous DC and do the SL ST and 2 CH it looks a little messy (like the lines don't come together anymore). Is that normal, since there are no DC in that area?

  26. I tried using a 'nobby' type yarn like this one, but found it difficult to see where the stitches are to join everything together. Is there something I am doing wrong, or do I just need more practice?

    ReplyDelete
  27. It's just hard to see with the fuzzy yarn. If you put a stitch marker (paperclip, saftey pin, hook earrings) in the spot where you will need to join at the end of the row, that will help.

  33. Love your site! Thank you for this pattern. I got Lion Brand Homespun yarn which recommends using a K Hook. I tried the J Hook but was having great difficulty finding my stitches. ....I am new to crochet. Can I use the K Hook instead? Thank you so much!
