Free Pattern: Three-Flower Tie Headband

Here is #2 sporting the tie headband.  I saw a lacy tie headband on Pinterest, and I was inspired to make a baby-sized one for my girlies.  The tie works well for crochet, since the chain stitch isn't naturally stretchy.  It probably wouldn't work too well for a wiggly baby, but for my almost-two-year-old it worked out well.  She wore it for about half an hour and it didn't slip.

Supplies:
Small amounts of two colors of worsted weight yarn
Size 5mm hook
Size 3.5mm (or other small size) hook
Tapestry needle

Abbreviations:
Ch - chain
Dc - double crochet
Sl st - slip stitch
Sc - single crochet
Tc - triple or treble crochet
YO - yarn over

Special Stitch:
Dc cluster - Make a dc within one step of completion.  With the extra loop on your hook, make another dc, pulling the final loop through all 3 loops on hook.
Tc cluster - Make a tc within one step of completion.  Repeat two more times.  (4 loops on hook)  YO, pull loop through all loops on hook.

Instructions:
Make two small flowers in the main color and one in a contrasting color.  Or, do what I want to do next, and make all three small flowers in the same color and the large flower in a contrasting color.

Small Flower:
Use size 5mm hook
Magic Ring, inside ring [ch 2, dc cluster ch 2] 5 times.  Pull ring very tight, sl st to finish off.  Leave a tail for sewing.

Large Flower:
Round 1: Magic Ring, 11 sc in ring.  Pull ring tight, sl st to first sc to close.
Round 2: [Ch 3, tc cluster in next sc, ch 3, sl st in next sc.] 5 times.   Sl st to base to finish off.  Leave a tail for sewing.

Assembling:
Sew small flower onto large flower, sew small flowers under each side of the large flower.
Attach yarn to side of small flower, using 3.5mm hook make the tying chains.  At the end of the chain, I just pulled the yarn through and pulled the knot tight, then trimmed it short.  I think it looks fine without weaving in.
For my almost-2-year-old, I did one side 10 inches the other side 15 inches.
