Free Pattern: Vintage-look Summer Bonnet
I love this sweet Easter bonnet for a photo prop, or it would be beautiful in white for a christening bonnet.
I used a stitch from The Crochet Stitch Bible - all credit to them for the stitch. I will try to explain it the best I can, but I will not do a diagram because it would just be copying the book. If you want further help, the book is easy to find on amazon.
This is a newborn size (doll pictured has a head circumference of 14"), but it would be easy to adjust for bigger sizes. Just add 10 to the foundation sc and add a row at the end for each size up - so for 3 months, 72 and 11 rows; for 6 months, 82 and 12 rows, etc. That would be my guess anyway.
Supplies:
Baby or sport weight yarn
Size 4.25mm hook
Opt tapestry needle for weaving in ends
Abbreviations:
Ch - chain
Tc - triple (or treble) crochet
Sp - space
Sl st - slip stitch
Sc - single crochet
Instructions:
Ch 62
Row 1: In 2nd ch from hook, sc. *In the fifth ch from hook, 9 tc. In fifth ch from hook, sc. Repeat from * across.
Row 2: Ch 3. Tc in sc. *Ch 4. Sc in 5th(center) tc of cluster. Ch 4. 2 tc in sc. Repeat from * across.
Row 3: Ch 1. Sc in sp between ch 3 and tc. *9 tc in next sc. Sc in sp between two tcs. Repeat from * across.
Row 4-10: Repeat rows 2-3.
At the end of row 9, finish off.
Finishing - Fold in half with right sides of row 9 clusters together. Loosely sl st down row 1. Finish off.
Curls - Ch 50, 2 sc in each ch. Finish off. Use ends to attach curls to corners. Weave in all ends.
I made 3 no-sew roses with baby weight yarn and a 4.25mm hook, hot-glued them together and attached them to the bonnet.
