Free Pattern: Travel Wipes Cover
This pattern is a crochet cover for a Huggies travel-size box of wipes. Paired with a paci pouch, it would be a wonderful baby shower gift! A little more trouble than the usual glue fabric and ribbon method, but I've always liked the Huggies box better than the Pampers one.
Make sure you leave the top open with the button closures, so you can get the cover off to refill the box with wipes.
This is the thick-and-thin pattern. Stay tuned for the all double crochet pattern to match the other paci pouch.
Supplies:
Huggies Travel Wipe Container
Worsted weight yarn, 2 colors
Size 5 (H/8) hook
2 buttons
Hot glue
Opt bit of velcro
Opt tapestry needle
Abbreviations:
Ch - chain
Sc - single crochet
Dc - double crochet
Sl st - slip stitch
Note - The numbers of stitches are not important in this pattern. You should check against the case, starting with the foundation row, to make sure it covers the top of the case without going over. Then check at row 9, row 14 and row 23 before moving on to the next section, to make sure it covers what it is supposed to. Add or subtract stitches or rows to get it right. It won't mess anything up. You will just disregard stitch counts for the rest of the pattern and make sure the Finishing Row is in the right place to cover the bottom of the case.
Instructions:
Ch 19
Foundation Row: Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across. (16 dc) (read the note!)
(From here out you will be working in rounds, around the whole of the foundation row.)
Round 1: Change to color 2. Ch 1 loosely. Do not turn, just keep going around. Sc in the end dc, 2 sc in the bottom of the end dc. Sc in each dc across; 2 sc in the end dc. Sc in the turning ch. 2 sc in the top of the first dc. Sc in each dc across, join to ch. (So you are doing in the first corner 1 ch and one sc, 2 sc in each of the other 3 corners, 1 sc the turning ch and the end dc, and 1 sc in both sides of the other dcs.)
Round 2: Change to color 1. Ch 3. Dc in each sc around. Join to top ch of ch 3.
Round 3: Change to color 2. Ch 1 loosely. Sc in each dc around. Join to ch.
Round 4-9: Repeat Rounds 2-3 three times.
(You will now work only on the back of the case, to leave the flap open. Finishing off and rejoining makes a lot of ends, so I worked the stitches over the exposed ends, to avoid having to weave in a zillion ends.)
Round 10: Change to color 1. Ch 3. Dc in next 23 sc.
Round 11: Join color 2 to top ch of Round 10 ch 3. Ch 1 loosely. Sc in each dc across.
Round 12: Join color 1 to Round 11 ch. Ch 3. Dc in each sc across.
Round 13: Repeat Round 11.
Round 14: Join Join color 1 to Round 11 ch. Ch 3. Dc in each sc across. Change to color 2, ch 14. Join to top ch of ch 3.
Round 15: Ch 1 loosely. Sc in each dc and ch around. Join to ch.
Round 16-23: Repeat Rounds 2-3 four times.
Finishing Row: Join color 1 to the 23rd sc. Ch 3. Dc in same sc and in each sc to end. Ch 3, join to Row 23. Finish off, weave in all ends.
Sew buttons to Round 21, to the third sc in from the corners in the back. (You'll have to slide the cover on the wipe case and eyeball it.)
Loops: Join color 2 to 3rd dc from the outside. Ch 9 (or however many it takes to tightly wrap around button). Join to 4th dc from outside. Repeat on other side.
You can leave the case as is, at this point, or you can cover the exposed plastic flap. I hot-glued three sizes of circles to the plastic flap to make a polka dot deisgn. Alternatively, you could sew the polka dots (or other appliques) together and sew them to the side of the flap-hole, glue soft velcro dot on the plastic flap and sticky velcro dot on the corresponding spot on the bottom of the appliques for a case that is completely removable.
Small circle: Magic Ring, ch 1, 10 sc. Pull ring tight, join to ch. Finish off, weave in ends.
Medium circle: Magic Ring, ch 3, 12 dc. Pull ring tight, join to top ch of ch 3. Finish off, weave in ends.
Large circle: Magic Ring, ch 1, 10 sc. Pull tight, join to ch. Ch 3, 2 dc in each sc. Join to top ch of ch 3. Finish off, weave in ends.

ReplyDeleteI love your patterns they are so cute, but can i make a suggestion that maybe somehow you can change the background for printing purposes because it eats up a lot of color.
