Free Pattern: Baby Washcloths
I learned this stitch pattern from The Crochet Stitch Bible. So gentle and soft, this beautiful baby washcloth is perfect for the newest addition in your life.
It measures almost square - about 7" by 6.5"
Supplies:
Worsted weight cotton (I love this cotton by Hobby Lobby)
5.5mm (I/9) hook
Abbreviations:
Ch - chain
Dc - double crochet
Sc - single crochet
Instructions:
Ch 25.
Row 1: 2 dc in 4th ch from hook. *Skip 2 ch, sc in next ch. Skip 2 ch, 4 dc in next ch. Repeat from * to end (ending on a sc).
Row 2-12: Ch 3, turn. 2 dc in first sc. *Sc in the space between the second and third dc in next 4-dc cluster. 4 dc in next sc. Repeat from * to last sc. Sc in ch-3 turning ch (in the space, not in the ch).
Finish off, weave in ends.
Note - don't check the measurements until after the second row.
I used a set of three in the diaper cake I made for a friend's baby shower. When I rolled them up, they looked like roses. Perfect!

ReplyDeleteSo lovely! I've been using the same book to make washcloths! I also used a book of granny squares for the same purpose, but I think this book is better!

ReplyDeleteTk u so much for sharing your patterns & talent with us. I love your patterns - all so very nice. This baby washcloth is really nice - am trying to make it now. I have a question: how many stitches are you supposed to have after row 1 - I end up with 18 - is that correct? If not, any ideas as to what I am doing wrong. I followed the instructions as best I know how but am not sure that is the correct amt of stitches to end up with??? Tk u so much for yr help.
ReplyDeleteIt's been a while since I've done this and I'm confused - after row 2 (and subsequent rows) do u ch3 then sc in space between 2nd & 3rd dc or do u just go directly to sc in space between 2nd & 3rd dc without doing ch 3??
ReplyDeleteIt's a wonderful & practical diy project.
