For accent I added white 'fun fur' when crocheting row 10. When I finished each earflap, I simply chained 30 stitches, making the ties. I didn't edge this hat; I felt the white 'fun fur' was enough accent. This will match the sweater and booties I made for my great-granddaughter for Christmas. I found your cute hat directions and used the left over yarn to make a hat. It came out so cute. I used the magic ring directions, which I have never heard of before. What a great idea, so easy to do. I added a crochet flower to the hat. It really came out cute and I finished the whole project during the first half of a football game my husband and I were watching. I'm sure the hat will be a hit at the shower next week.
